10 19 11 (UTC) - Okay, a new episode TOTALLY rescued my morning from Hell... so excuse the lengthy comment.
Here are my assorted thoughts:

* Peyton's little talk on the SMAP documentary was too sweet! I like hearing idols talk honestly, too, and I really appreciate that SMAP take their jobs so seriously. That's one of my favorite things about Japanese pop culture - a dedication to meaningful work.

* Matsujun = ♥ I would love to be bossed around by him. As for the others, Fujigaya is way too camera-whorey to be a prince but I'd love to see Yamada Ryosuke on that list. He is a little prince for sure! Jun-kun will have to watch out in a few years.

* Drama OSTs can be really good. My favorite is the Bara no nai Hanaya OST, which is brilliant. But as for the Ikemen OST, I really just can't get JGS's beautiful voice out of my head when I hear the songs. (And I don't think Fujigaya is all that great a singer. His voice is so reedy. This brings me to another thought I had recently, though, what do you guys think about the 3-4 grouping of Kisumai? I know Fujigaya and Tamamori are popular now but I want MORE from the others. I hope the next single showcases more than just Kitayama and Fujigaya's vocals.)

* Most importantly... okay Jin's American debut. The accent thing is really important. Most Americans have a lot of trouble understanding accents. There are a few considered "sexy" - BBC English, French, Italian, and sometimes a "Latin" accent. Anyone else will probably have points taken off for their accent - and most Americans ESPECIALLY hate East Asian accents. (Just watch that 'ping pong ching chong' racist youtube video from that UC girl.) So, if Jin's accent shows up even in the slightest, Americans will automatically tune out.

About the marketing to the Asian community only - I think it's smarter to go broad. The Asian-American press will cover it anyways. Even as America is a multi-cultural society, mainstream (i.e. white) America really won't seek out things that are "ethnic" in any way. One artist I hope Jin's people looked at was Jay Sean, who is a British Asian rapper, but while he hasn't ignored the Asian community, he really went for a MAINSTREAM approach to crossing to the US and I think it worked pretty well.

Lastly on Jin - I would love to hear him work with the-dream. Somebody make that happen.
10 19 11 (UTC) - just had to tell you.
NOON boys names are Nozawa Yuki (the taller) and Sanada Yuma. And their group is Mis Snow Man. :D
11 11 11 (UTC)
Fujigaya and Jin, both were at the same auditions, as in on the same day, 8th Nov 1998.
