Actually I like Revolver
Yoko is #1 on my list

The Sukiyanen PV, I think I spent about 2 weeks laughing at this PV, and just at this PV. This was when I first was getting into Johnny's and this one was of the first things I ran across. Its just so funny and epic that it had me going for a very long time. The song is timeless. If you need a song to bring a smile to your face, look no further than this song. I know this and other Kanjani8 songs have been able to pick me back up even when in the worst of moods. Kanjani8 is pure crack.
07 10 10 (UTC)
Goro and Tsuyoshi have had magazine columns, too. Goro currently has a monthly film column in AnAn.
07 10 10 (UTC)
I like the concert footage added to the PV. I'm so used to seeing Kanjani8 PVs where the members are being silly in some strange setting that sometimes I forget that they are actually a professional and talented group that should be taken seriously. The concert footage and the outside shots of Osaka makes it look less like a PV and more like a "best of" video. I can't comment on the other parts of the PV because I think it would have helped if I understood not only Japanese but their Kansai dialect*. But I did enjoy this video. I remember when they won a best artist award and it was said that their music was thought to cheer people up during the bad economy. Videos like these proves that point.

*On a side note I am using them as a goal in my Japanese leesons. My Japanese is still pretty basic but with every other Johnny Group I can pick up a few sentences here and there. I have never been able to understand a word their saying. I just can't translate in my head fast enough. One day!!!
07 11 10 (UTC) - Sukyanen Osaka PV
If anything, fantards should question why Johnny tells these almost-30 year olds they can't drive because of their bandmates' negligence. Not an Arashi superfan but I still find that weird. Victim blaming makes me rage. Aish.

Yoko is my #1 too. I'd rather have TMI than too little. Apparently I'm one of those girls. Hm.

Oh, the MC from the KAT-TUN interview is Minhyuk from C.N Blue. They used to be an "indie" band in Japan so I'm sure he's fluent. I despise D-Motion but I preferred it with 5 people as opposed to 6. It had a bit more...flow? They switched a lot of Jin's parts which I'm glad for because I didn't want to hear them butcher English either. OHMYGOSH, I love you for saying that Kpop is more R&B-ish since I've never had anyone agree with me yet. Boybands in Kpop, in my opinion, tend to have that rough/manly image so KAT-TUN would suit Korea more than any other JE group (though I'm still not sure how popular they are there). D-Motion doesn't have choreography which is mandatory for any Korean boyband so that swaying thing they did was another improvement in my mind. I saw it live online and expected the performance to be a lot worse. I was just glad they looked confident on stage and didn't trip. Someone watching with me asked why Koki looked like a druglord =D. If anything, I was surprised that Koki took the role of "leader" in the MC part over Nakamaru or Kame.

That PV is so Kanjani8. In general, I find Johnny's videos to be all over the place (sorry, I was a kpop fan first and am new at JE) but this mix of singing, jumping in front of the camera, concert footage and talking makes me smile. For some reason it reminded me of Naniwa Iroha Bushi but I can't put my finger on the reason. That's a compliment to this since one of my favourite K8 songs is Naniwa Iroha Bushi. K8 videos usually seem to have no structure but it definitely cheers me up rather than embarrass me so... mission accomplished?

Am I the only one who thinks To Be Free by Arashi sounds like an Avril Lavigne song?

Wow, long comment. I feel like I should send you guys a cookie if you actually manage to read it all.
07 13 10 (UTC)
cute song. Looks like a fan vid. Arashi sang this at Countdown, didn't they? And KJ8 did One Love?
07 17 10 (UTC)
woulda posted this earlier but i was out of town with no internet

okay, about KAT-TUN's performance on M!Countdown.

Peyton, as a fan of first JE and then Kpop, I think you're correct in your assumption that KAT-TUN did D-motion because it would be more popular in the korean market. In fact it is very similar in concept, if maybe not style to many of the really popular songs that have come out lately. the style in kpop for the last, oh, year or so has leaned more towards Dance music with increasing amounts of auto-tune.

For example Super Junior's Bonamana http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSOSxwEWFA4 or Sorry Sorry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6QA3m58DQw&feature=channel,
Mblaq's Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QxHcMGgGYk ,
B2ST's Shock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KPL3XGPQcM , Special http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZMx9YgkGu0 , or Mystery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0-_dVzmajk ,
Z:EA's Mazeltov http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTkJ9UK3JsQ ,
Shinee's Ring Ding Dong http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shinee+ring+ding+dong+mv&aq=2 ,
2AM's I did Wrong http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZBJpjaKi7I ,
and UKISS's Bingeul Bingeul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtLWGX5yHFs , Manmanhani http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0LGurfPWyc , or mworago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx2QofWGKms ,
or T-MAX's Don't Be Rude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9rYeh5lsxg , not all have auto tune but many at least feature it at some point or another. so while D-motion definitely doesn't sound like a kpop song the approach is quite similar.

but about the assertion that gay wouldn't fly in the korean market right now, just check out super junior's latest song No Other~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB07WXy6eb4&feature=fvst
or 2AM's Number One http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fokefEFzWEA
In fact in the past many songs were really REALLY gay. not as much lately but still,

these are a bit older, this is kinda the DEFINITION of gay,
DBSK's Balloons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdTVb64pfMs
or Super Junior's Happiness http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcsdA-oGrkQ or Tic Toc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp4vuqcyoU4&feature=related or Miracle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cELfMmaFbjY

and there are many others like those out there~

so Gay, would in fact, work, and it has in the past, it's just not the current trend in the market. Johnny's proably just playing it safe and picking a song that he feels will have the most appeal.

well, Hope this helps~

oh and about arashi's to be free.... Does anyone else feel like it belongs in an illness drama? like playing during that mandatory flashback of all the good/happy/inspirational/emotional times that the ill person had before they died? while the person left behind has a monologue or the person who died has that last monologue? just saying here
07 17 10 (UTC)
I do agree with dance songs being popular. But rather than a focus on autotune, the songs you mentioned all have a manly image with suitable choreography. I think that's more defining than the autotune is. In that sense, I wish they had chosen a different song and hired a competent choreographer to make something of it.

I feel a little offended that you choose to use the word gay to describe a cute/innocent concept but whatever, I agree with your point. Rainbows and sunshine don't really cut it. But KAT-TUN songs don't usually fall under that umbrella anyway so I only wish they had picked a different, and better, song. It would make sense that he thought D-MOTION would do well but I still think the company is underestimating the importance of dance. TVXQ not only brought the vocals but they brought an amazingly coordinated stage that, frankly, is lacking in JE.

To me it feels like one of those songs that plays when someone is running around a city trying to find their friend/sort out their own lives. Not sure why but I feel very contrary today.
07 18 10 (UTC)
oh no it wasn't my word~ that's the word peyton used~ so i was using it too, she said that maybe kat-tun's going wouldn't work in the kpop market was because it was was too gay, to paraphrase. personally i just think it's adorable but whatever~

and about the autotune, well yes they do but many of the feature autotune at least to some extent, and it's becoming more and more common, in songs, not only in boy groups but all over. girl groups so artists ect. it's just becoming the trend to use autotune. i just chose the examples i did because i was trying to compare boy groups to boy groups

and don't worry about being contrary, have a nice freindly arguement is always fun XD

feel welcome to correct anything i say that you may feel is wrong~
07 18 10 (UTC)
Sorry about jumping on you for using "gay". I listened back to the episode and realized that's why you used that description.

Oh, I agree with autotune being popular in Korea (and the rest of the world unfortunately).

Let's use SM as an example since they're the most popular idol company at the moment. In the past years, Gee, Mirotic and Sorry, Sorry were the most popular songs right? They all sold well and became popular.

The songs are not ground-breaking but the dances are what helped make the songs popular. Everyone knows the Gee dance even if they're not fans of SNSD because everyone did it on shows. Same with the chorus of Sorry, Sorry and that chin part of Mirotic. Would Mister have been as popular without the butt dance? I doubt it. Man Man Ha Ni without their chorus' dance? Probably not. They all have a dance that looks good but simple enough that people can imitate and have fun with = success.

I always like to discuss things without unnecessary rage too =D
07 19 10 (UTC)
don't worry about it~

you definitely have a point though, the dance is a very important part of a kpop song~ it's very strange going in between kpop and jpop brecause the approaches and styles are sooooooooo different~
07 19 10 (UTC)
I obviously like JE too otherwise I wouldn't bother listening to this podcast. I'm still the freak who went from Kpop to Jpop (most people go the other way) and I just want JE to have a larger international fanbase. Thanks for being so civil. I still like both though, I just hope that autotune, around the world, dies in a fire ASAP.
07 20 10 (UTC)
honestly i don't mind autotune every once in a while, but when an artist does it ALL the time or the WHOLE song.... that's when I get annoyed with it XD.
07 18 10 (UTC)
Next show, onegai???? T_T (fangirl getting impatient, LOL).

Also, breaking news about Jin & Kat-Tun -- will that be on the next show, or do we have to wait another week to hear your thoughts on that?
07 18 10 (UTC)
sorry bb, rl has been really busy so i haven't had the time to post up the next show yet. but it's coming. in a few hours! just let me dress up the show notes a bit and make them more presentable, okay? ;)

kuntt and jin drama will not be on ep 118 as it had already been recorded before the news had broken last night. :x
07 18 10 (UTC)
LOL, NO PROBLEM! ;) Just was wondering. Kuntt, eh? LOL

08 04 10 (UTC) - Hina at the ending of Wonderful World
Hello ^^

I just wanted to enlighten you about the hina thing at the end of the PV.
As far as I know, Kanjani8 started a few PV before that they would put one member
in a costume at each PV.

Wahaha - Yasuda as the honeybee
Musekinin Hero - Maru as a politician in the PV
KyûJô Show - Yoko as the Director behind the monitor
Wonderful World - Hina as a hippie
(and Obachan Rock - Subaru as a woman in the booklet)
